While today many wish to keep religion separate from politics I believe this is not possible if one is to maintain intellectual honesty (truthfulness) while living according to the tenants of a faith-based community as in Christianity where the Word of God (Bible) clearly presents those tenants for the faithful to follow. Reality as experienced in the world we live in, no matter how large or how small the orbit of your world is today, that orbit widens with every new relationship and with every new idea that comes into our minds. The Apostle Paul was getting at this when he wrote in Romans 12:2: Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Both the New and Old Covenants contain numerous examples of how the world was influenced by this ideology and instead of elevating the love of God in mankind’s environment it brought forth a culture of corruption which remains with mankind today. A perfect example of the religio/politico situation is found in Jesus day in the narratives describing the Pharisees and the Sadducees. These Jewish leaders were confronted by Jesus as to their hypocritical behavior and their disdain for truthfulness.
So in understanding the religio/political ideology it is simply the overlapping of religion and politics and as Christians, we will need to recognize this integration and challenge the falsehoods and elevate the truthfulness directing those in our orbits to trust in and follow along with the love of God.
